DIMAS-ALANG BAKERY, 1919 |
the well loved PANDESAL! |
Whenever I'm on the jeepney going to
the church or my school when I was in secondary, my nose are suddenly taken
away by the smell of warm and sweet bread by the Dimas-Alang bakery in
Kapasigan, Pasig City. The Dimas-Alang bakery was the first known bakery in
Pasig owned by Ambrosio Lozada on the year 1919 who
is the father of an internationally known pianist named Carmencita Lozada. The
fact that the Philippines back then was still on the verge of Spanish
colonization, the bakery was named after the pseudonym of Dr. Jose P. Rizal-
Dimas-Alang which means strong and always ready.
Pasig City was then just starting to
carve its name on the field of business, the Pasiguenos daily life revolves
around work and family but one thing that will make Pasiguenos life complete is
the "almusal" with coffee and pandesal. A perfect blend of sweetness
in the pandesal makes the Pasiguenos have a brighter outlook on their day and
being so cheap they don't have to stress themselves out just to satisfy their
hunger without sacrificing the preference of their tastebuds.
The Dimas-Alang Bakery until today is
serving their pandesal and many other kinds and flavors of breads including
croissants and french bread however Pasiguenos always come back to buying
pandesal instead of those breads. Other kinds of bread such as aglipay, bonete,
biscocho and the "di ko akalain" were on the top priority of the
buyers when they visit this bakery. Getting to Dimas-Alang Bakery is relatively
easy, just ride a jeepney or fx that has the route of Pasig Palengke or Pasig
San Joauqin, you can savor the flavor of the bread that has been a witness of
the evolution and history of Pasig City in no sweat! Experience the flavor that
was well loved by our ancestors! To find out more about the Dimas-Alang
